Marquita Brooks, Professional Counseling Student
Hello! My name is Marquita Brooks and I am so excited to help all children reach their fullest potential academically, socially, and personally!
As a professional counseling student, I truly believe that all children are capable of high achievement given the right support, encouragement and opportunities to thrive. I believe that every child has dignity and worth and unique individual strengths and that it is our job to help children discover and develop those qualities. Every child needs a safe, inclusive, respectful environment that honors differences in race, culture, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation and ability.
Recognizing and celebrating those differences is an important way to provide a school counseling program that nurtures the whole child. As a school counselor, I am committed to:
Creating a nurturing environment to address the academic, social, emotional, creative and physical development of all students.
Monitoring student progress through a comprehensive counseling program that includes classroom guidance lessons, individual planning, responsive services and system support.
Advocating for students in all situations while maintaining confidentiality except in cases where we have duty to warn or protect, suspected abuse or legal obligation.
Engaging in ongoing professional development and leadership opportunities to ensure my work reflects the highest standards of the counseling profession.
Abiding by the ethical standards and best practices articulated by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA).
With each day, I strive to create self confidence, promote self awareness and empower students to set goals that will lead them to a lifetime of success. It is goal that my work is guided by empathy, professionalism and commitment to ensuring every child feels valued and supported and equipped to succeed in a diverse and ever-changing world.
